About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the primary escalation point for high-priority operational incidents and coordinate rapid resolution
- Lead post-incident reviews and root-cause analysis to identify systemic problems
- Define, monitor, and report operational KPIs focused on system stability, incident trends, and recovery times
- Translate technical system statuses, operational issues, and platform roadmaps for business leaders and VPs
- Keep business stakeholders informed about data platform health, system availability, and business impact of major incidents
- Coordinate cross-functional communication during critical operational windows
- Drive process and workflow improvements to increase operational productivity and reduce manual overhead
- Implement intelligent automation strategies and partner with Data Engineering and Architecture teams to reduce technical debt
- Manage low-risk decommissioning of legacy systems and transition to modern platforms
- Lead operational health of enterprise data platforms and pipelines, including monitoring and workload automation with Control-M
- Collaborate with Data Compliance and Governance teams on data governance, lineage, and access controls
- Use enterprise data governance tools for data quality, metadata cataloging, and security across cloud platforms
- Manage strategic vendor relationships and evaluate technology proposals
- Provide commercial and technical recommendations
- Mentor, develop, and lead a high-performing data operations team
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) Required
- 10+ years of prior relevant experience in data operations, data engineering, or IT platform management
- At least 3+ years in a leadership or director-level capacity
- Strong hands-on knowledge and experience with modern cloud data architectures, Azure preferred
- Experience with Databricks
- Proven track record of managing structured incident management frameworks
- Experience reducing incident rates and executing successful escalation procedures
- Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical operational issues in clear, business-friendly, non-technical terms to senior business leaders
