Senior Consultant – Sport

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Advise technology companies, global investors, sports and entertainment organisations, and influential individuals on communications and policy challenges
- Advise sports investors, club and franchise owners, governing bodies, leagues and executive teams on ownership, funding, governance and fan-facing issues
- Advise on acquisitions and investments, multi-club ownership, governance and regulation, media rights, stadium projects, leadership transitions and crises
- Advise clients directly, set communications strategy, manage teams and take ownership of client outcomes
- Translate complex transactions, ownership structures, governance and regulation into compelling narratives
- Set strategy and priorities with client team leads
- Build integrated communications plans and design research briefs
- Interrogate briefs, challenge assumptions and provide an independent perspective
- Produce written content and lead major announcements, media briefings, speeches, owned-channel campaigns and events
- Monitor ownership rules, regulatory change, rights deals, league politics and fan sentiment
- Use Claude, Gemini, Factiva and Meltwater to generate insight and support complex deliverables
- Manage junior colleagues, create project plans, delegate work and ensure high-quality delivery
- Use Claude, Gemini and Milltown's internal AI Studio for research, insight generation and analysis
- Contribute to AI knowledge-sharing and experiment with AI-powered workflows
- Contribute to internal projects and identify client growth and development opportunities
- Help build Milltown's profile in sports business circles
- Give and receive feedback and contribute to an inclusive working environment
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5–7 years of corporate communications experience with exposure to sport, investor, transaction-led or consumer brand clients
- Strong working understanding of the business of sport, including ownership and investment, media rights, governance and regulation, and commercial models
- Ability to demonstrate subject-matter understanding through client work, an in-house role, study or sustained personal interest
- Ability to investigate unfamiliar territory, identify angles and produce well-grounded work
- Strong written and editorial skills
- Ability to understand complex briefs and produce clear, compelling and accurate work
- Experience building advisory relationships with senior stakeholders, including owners, chairs, chief executives and investors
- Experience developing media strategies and working with journalists across national, business and sports media outlets
- Experience using AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini effectively, safely and critically in a professional setting
- Project management experience, including planning and delivering work against goals, timelines and budgets
- Experience managing junior colleagues and delegating effectively
- Intellectual curiosity and ability to develop subject-matter expertise
- Collaborative approach and commitment to an inclusive culture
- Desirable: experience advising sports owners, investors, leagues or governing bodies in-agency, or working in-house at a sports organisation or sports investor
- Desirable: corporate or financial communications experience, particularly around transactions, or experience working with private equity, hedge funds or other investors
- Desirable: familiarity with sports policy and regulation, or experience working with supporter groups
