Jud Appellate Court Clerk
Minnesota Lawyer. Process all appeals filed with the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court .
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Process all appeals filed with the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court
- Accept appellate filings, enter them into the Minnesota Appellate Court System (MACS) database, and distribute copies to appellate court judges, internal staff, and registered MACS users
- Review document submissions for accuracy and completeness and process filings timely
- Assist attorneys, parties, self-represented litigants, judges, and the public in person, by phone, mail, and electronically
- Direct inquiries to appropriate court personnel
- Review, enter, record, and update case information using electronic case processing systems and related applications and equipment
- Determine routing of notices, motions, petitions, and other filings and notify parties of filing deficiencies
- Create accurate docket entries for case initiation, motions, orders, decisions, responses, correspondence, transcripts, and attorney scheduling conflicts
- Prepare and post appellate court decisions on the public website
- Perform printing, filing, scanning/imaging, photocopying, faxing, mail processing, file retrieval, storage preparation, and drafting orders for office equipment and supplies
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of relevant job experience or greater, including customer service, administrative work, office, or clerical work
- Additional education may substitute for experience
- Ability to learn rules of court, state statutes, case processing, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of basic math
- Skill in navigating difficult situations and resolving conflict respectfully and courteously
- Ability to support court users with limited experience with the judicial system
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service under pressure in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Skill in operating a personal computer, electronic case management systems, related applications, and equipment
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in compliance with court rules, policies, and statutes
- Effective oral and written communication
- Well organized, detail oriented, and analytical
- Ability to sit and wear a headset for the majority of the day
- Ability to occasionally move up to 25 pounds
- Ability to perform significant data entry based on daily work assignment
- Satisfactory background check required
