About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead development of plastic injection molded automotive parts, including fascias, spoilers, body side moldings, grilles, side appliques, license plate applique assemblies, and decorative lighting
Take programs from inception through launch, including product design and development
Attend customer meetings and track program open issues
Create and take responsibility for GD&T, DFMEA, and DVP&R
Consult with OEMs on new plastic product development to meet customer specifications, manufacturability, tooling feasibility, and quality objectives
Resolve technical issues through product and manufacturing-process knowledge, engineering education, industry practice, and awareness of new technologies
Direct and coordinate projects from design through production start-up, including prototype builds, testing, and specification establishment
Document technical aspects of assigned projects and ensure proper data retention
Prepare technical presentations and visit customers virtually or in person for open issues, design reviews, or proposal reviews
Recommend design approaches and technical solutions to customers and escalate critical issues to peers, departments, and engineering management
Track material, technique, and technology development trends and validate their application in structural products
Support the gate review process

Requirements

What you’ll need

A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field is required
Advanced degree highly desired
Minimum 5 years of experience in developing automotive plastic injection molded parts
Strong fascia engineering or design experience preferred
Experience with front/rear fascias product design is a plus
Experience in plastic injection molding, including standard injection, compression injection, reaction injection molding (RIM, especially with PUR), or other new processes
Understanding of assembly processes and joining technologies such as vibration, sonic, or laser welding, fasteners, clips, or molded snap features
Ability to work with CAD software, including NX and CATIA
Strong working knowledge of GD&T, FMEAs, and DVP&Rs
Ability to work in a global environment coordinating between North America, Europe, and China
Strong communication, presentation, organization, interpersonal, and self-learning skills
High level of self-motivation and bias for action
