About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, develop, and test nuclear equipment and systems
  • Research new materials of special interest in nuclear reactors
  • Conduct studies related to detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants
  • Study the nuclear fuel cycle to define economical material use and safe waste-product disposal
  • Perform radiation transport modeling, statistical analyses, and performance metrics research
  • Recommend technology options or approaches for system, process, facility, or program improvements in safety, performance, efficiency, or cost
  • Provide engineering, monitoring, training, radiation health, technical services, and emergency planning support to the Newport News Shipbuilding Radiological Control Program
  • Support Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 0 years experience with Bachelors in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years relevant experience
  • Undergraduate degree from an ABET accredited program
  • Proficiency with desktop or personal computers and associated software, including word processing, graphics, database, and spreadsheet applications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Ability to work in office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environments
  • Capable of climbing ladders, tolerating confined spaces, and tolerating extreme temperature variances
  • U.S. Navy nuclear propulsion program experience aboard submarines or aircraft carriers preferred
  • Commercial nuclear power plant operations experience preferred
