About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide systems engineering support for the design, fabrication, testing/acceptance, and delivery of systems, structures, components, and software
- Create and maintain system architectures, interface control documents, and technical roadmaps for directed energy technologies
- Convert customer and product requirements into total systems solutions within technical, schedule, and cost constraints
- Perform technical planning, system integration, verification, and validation
- Evaluate alternatives including cost, risk, supportability, and total-systems analyses
- Translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
- Conduct trade studies, modeling and simulation, and performance analysis
- Communicate task status clearly and concisely
- Identify, articulate, and manage risks
- Manage internal and external relationships
- Create and maintain reports
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, and test engineers on cohesive system design
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
- Support proposal writing involving MOSA, SE, MBSE, and lasers
- Provide customer-facing business development support and technical solutioning
Requirements
What you’ll need- 15 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or 13 years with a Master's degree; or 10 years with a PhD or Juris Doctorate; or a High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience
- Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience authoring a systems engineering management plan
- Expertise in systems engineering lifecycle management, including requirements, architectures, integration, and validation plans within a production environment
- Deep understanding of requirements development, architecture definition/decomposition, testing philosophies/methodologies, and verification coverage
- Experience working within government contracts
- Technical and problem-solving intuition
- Ability to anticipate and mitigate programmatic implications of system challenges
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with government stakeholders, company leadership, and technical subject matter experts
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Preferred: Experience with a defense hard tech prime or major subcontractor
- Preferred: Experience with laser, power, or cooling systems
- Preferred: Experience with Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA)
- Preferred: Experience with CAMEO systems engineering and requirements management software
- Preferred: Active Secret clearance or higher
- Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances
- Lifting and moving materials may be required
