About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks
- Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, including laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes
- Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings, flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics
- Perform detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas
- Conduct preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided
- Make quantitative judgments concerning technical data
- Use a personal computer for analyses and development of documentation and reports
- Conduct tests and record data to support engineering evaluation or analysis
- Support active Test Engineering projects within Newport News Shipbuilding’s Division
Requirements
What you’ll need- Engineering Technician 2: Associate degree or other 2-year technical degree in a related discipline and 1 year of related experience; or high school diploma/equivalent and 3 years of related DoD/USN experience
- Engineering Technician 3: Associate degree or other 2-year technical degree in a related discipline and 3 years of experience; or high school diploma/equivalent and 5 years of related DoD/USN experience
- Engineering Technician 4: Associate degree or other 2-year technical degree in a related discipline and 6 years of related experience; or high school diploma/equivalent and 8 years of related experience
- Confidential Security Clearance
- Experience with Navy Work Authorization Forms and Tag Outs using eSOMS
- Ability to work in a shipboard environment
- U.S. Citizenship
- Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity
- Required travel: 0–10%
