About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support HII Platform Modernization trades teams with shipboard alterations and installations for fleet modernization
  • Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment and structures on U.S. Navy surface ships
  • Apply production-process knowledge to complicated and non-routine shipboard installation tasks at company and field locations
  • Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, work orders, technical documents, controlled work packages, procedures, test documents, reports, and task/trip reports
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose systems and equipment
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications
  • Maintain effective communications and relations with supervisors and managers
  • Remove, plan, execute, install, and modify electrical cables, cableways, conductors, connectors, strain relief, fasteners, and equipment aboard naval vessels
  • Disconnect, repair, install, and reconnect electrical and data conductors on existing and new equipment
  • Perform complicated and non-routine duties outside the specialty as needed to complete assignments
  • Complete quality documentation for reporting and verification
  • Adhere to company and shipyard safety and quality procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma, trade school, or equivalent
  • 4 years of related shipboard electrical experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain shipyard and base access credentials within 60 days of start date
  • Must travel 50%–75% when not assigned to local tasking
  • Must provide hand tools and trade-specific PPE
  • Experience installing, removing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing high- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems, associated equipment, and cabling
  • Working knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts, work orders, and instructions
  • Familiarity with planning and laying out cable runs according to specifications and drawings
  • Experience preparing areas for welding and assisting in the attachment process
  • Experience installing, opening, modifying, and logging MCTs, MCPs, and stuffing tubes, and completing tests for final inspections
  • Proficiency in electrically disconnecting and reconnecting equipment and completing supporting OQE
  • Experience using multimeters, meggers, and testing procedures safely
  • Must accurately communicate technical work details with Team Leads and co-workers
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Current Fiber Optic certification and installation experience preferred
  • Multipin connector fabrication experience and NAVSEA STD 009-73 certification preferred
  • NAVSEA Cableway Improvement Program certifications preferred
  • Vocational school or skilled trades certificate program completion preferred
  • Current or active DoD clearance preferred
  • OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus
  • Must lift, carry, and transport at least 30 lbs.
  • Must work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperatures, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces
  • May require work in high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, aloft, or over vessel sides
  • May ride ships at sea for extended periods
  • May require wearing a respirator
