About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical products and systems
  • Apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems
  • Research and analyze mechanical systems supporting Part Task Trainer component design and functionality
  • Provide hardware systems engineering support for training-system evolution and integration
  • Design, integrate, implement, and maintain training, engineering, and developmental test equipment suites
  • Design and develop mechanical assemblies, tools, and devices for Part Task Trainer systems
  • Manufacture and test mechanical components for compliance with engineering specifications and Navy training requirements
  • Work on motors, actuators, thermal management, material handling, structural support, and motion systems
  • Create specialized tools and fixtures for assembly, testing, and maintenance
  • Perform design validation and optimization using computational analysis and simulation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to translate training requirements into mechanical solutions for Navy systems
  • Interpret data sheets and create cutouts, brackets, metalwork, 3D models, subassemblies, assemblies, and 3D-printed parts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 9 years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in a related field; 7 years relevant experience with a Master’s in a related field; or 4 years relevant experience with a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field
  • Autodesk Inventor experience to create sheet metal parts, 3D printed part models, models from data sheets, and modules from actual parts/equipment
  • Experience creating exploded-view presentations for assembly drawings of modules and racks
  • Experience creating metal drawings for fabrication, including flat patterns, detailed views, and callouts
  • Previous TDP/CAD experience
  • Experience providing project and user support, including cable fabrication, hardware installation and relocation, preventative and corrective maintenance, fault isolation, hardware repair, and documentation
  • Security clearance: Secret
  • Ability to work in an office, industrial, or shipboard environment
  • Ability to climb ladders and tolerate confined spaces and extreme temperature variances
  • Ability to lift and move materials within one-person lift guidelines
