About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support Platform Modernization trades teams with shipboard alterations and installations for fleet modernization
- Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment and structures on U.S. Navy surface ships
- Apply production-process knowledge to complicated and non-routine shipboard installation tasks
- Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, work orders, technical documents, controlled work packages, procedures, test documents, and reports
- Troubleshoot and diagnose systems and equipment
- Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications
- Maintain effective communication with supervisors and managers
- Remove, plan, execute, install, and modify electrical cables, cableways, conductors, connectors, strain relief, fasteners, and equipment aboard naval vessels
- Disconnect, repair, install, and reconnect electrical and data conductors on new and existing equipment
- Perform duties outside the specialty as needed to complete installations and work assignments
- Complete quality documentation for reporting and verification
- Adhere to company and shipyard safety and quality procedures
- Commute to shipyards and military bases around the San Diego area
- Travel to shipyards and military bases across the country and abroad when not assigned locally
- Work weekends and/or overtime depending on contract awards and support requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma, trade school, or equivalent
- 6 years of related shipboard electrical experience
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must obtain and maintain shipyard and base access credentials within 60 days of start date
- Must travel 50%–75% when not assigned to local tasking
- Must provide hand tools and trade-specific PPE
- Experience installing, removing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing high- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems, associated equipment, and cabling
- Strong working knowledge of drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts, work orders, and written/verbal instructions
- Experience planning and laying out cable runs according to specifications and drawings
- Experience preparing areas for welding and assisting with attachment processes
- Experience installing, opening, modifying, and logging MCTs, MCPs, and stuffing tubes, including final-inspection testing
- Experience electrically disconnecting and reconnecting new and existing equipment and completing supporting OQE
- Experience with multipin connector fabrication according to NAVSEA STD 009-73
- Experience using multimeters, meggers, and testing procedures safely
- Ability to accurately communicate technical work details with team leads and coworkers
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport at least 30 lbs.
- Ability to work on and climb ladders, aboard ships, in shipyards, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions
- May require respirator use and riding ships at sea for extended periods
