About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead technical teams performing shipboard installations, repairs, alterations, and fleet-modernization work
  • Work on active-class surface ships and at shore installations and naval vessels
  • Manage, oversee, schedule, and assign tasks across multiple jobs and contracts
  • Install, upgrade, remove, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment
  • Perform maintenance and technical support on shipboard systems, integrated systems, and related equipment/software
  • Analyze and evaluate systems, processes, products, and performance
  • Conduct quality inspections and provide customer-support personnel training
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions
  • Maintain customer communications and relations
  • Manage subcontractors, provide work direction, and lead employees
  • Perform complicated and non-routine tasks beyond the specialty when required
  • Develop, use, and maintain controlled work packages, procedures, test documents, reports, and task/trip reports
  • Schedule and attend meetings; report to and brief customers and senior management
  • Travel to shipyards and military bases domestically and abroad for up to 75% of the time when not assigned locally

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • High School education, Trade School or equivalent
  • 6 years of related Alteration Install Team experience, including at least 2 years of team/deck lead experience
  • Effective communication with employees, customers, and management
  • Expert working knowledge and experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical and electronic systems, structural elements, and associated marine-vessel equipment
  • Proficiency reading technical documents, manuals, blueprints, drawings, and schematics
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Windows, PDF software, and general computer usage
  • Must provide own hand tools designated for the trade specialty
  • Ability to follow and enforce safety procedures
  • Ability to travel 50%–75% when not assigned to local tasking
  • Must have and maintain a DOD Secret security clearance
  • Must attend Team Leader Training and complete Team Leader Qualification Standards
  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport at least 30 lbs. of equipment and boxes
  • Ability to work on and climb ladders, aboard ships, in shipyards, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions
  • May require working aloft or over vessel sides, riding ships at sea, and wearing a respirator
  • OSHA 10 Maritime Certification is preferred
  • Vocational school, apprenticeship, or skilled trades certificate completion is preferred
  • Multiple marine installation trade skills are highly preferred
