About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct patent searches assessing novelty and patentability of computer science and computer engineering inventions
  • Interview inventors to capture required technology details for patenting recommendations
  • Collaborate with inventors and the Office of General Counsel to develop patent prosecution strategy
  • Prepare patent applications, including specifications, drawings, and claims
  • Ensure technical accuracy of patent application subject matter
  • Provide technical and legal research and analysis supporting NGA submissions before the USPTO
  • Assist with USPTO action responses and docket management
  • Establish procedures to classify and maintain records
  • Interpret and enforce documentation formatting, standards, policies, and operating procedures
  • Support the NGA Office of Research and Technology Applications and Office of General Counsel

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • US TS/SCI security clearance required at hire
  • US citizenship required
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in computer architecture, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, software engineering, or programming
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance
  • Superior writing and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of patent laws, Manual of Patent Examining Procedure, and USPTO regulations
  • 5 years of experience related to listed job responsibilities with a bachelor's degree; 3 years relevant experience with a master's degree; 0 years experience with a PhD; or 9 years relevant experience with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • USPTO registration preferred
  • Submissions to technical journals and authoring white papers preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround times and minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment
  • Ability to climb ladders and tolerate confined spaces and extreme temperature variances
