About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform entry-level technical trade duties supporting repairs, installations, and maintenance
- Assist with work from blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals
- Use basic hand tools for project-specific tasks
- Perform semi-skilled and unskilled labor relating to mechanical and electrical systems
- Support installations and assigned tasks outside standard duties as needed
- Work closely with senior trades personnel and shipboard teams
- Support safe and effective day-to-day operations on shipboard and industrial systems
- Contribute to U.S. Navy readiness and national defense
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Experience with basic hand tools
- Ability to work in a shipyard environment, including aboard U.S. Navy ships
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting and follow safety protocols
- Ability to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of hire and maintain them
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to lift, carry and transport at least 30 lbs.
- Ability to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces
- Ability to perform duties in high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, including working aloft or over vessel sides
- May ride ships at sea for extended periods
- May require wearing a respirator
- Preferred: Experience in mechanical, electrical, welding, HVAC, or fitting trade
- Preferred: Current, active DoD Security Clearance
- Preferred: Recent completion within the last two years of a vocational or skilled trades training program
- Preferred: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation
