About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct UAS flight operations including pre-flight planning, launch, recovery, mission execution, and emergency procedures
- Perform detailed pre-flight and post-flight inspections to verify system airworthiness
- Operate and manage onboard payloads such as EO/IR sensors, wide area search systems, and other mission-specific equipment
- Monitor aircraft performance and assist in troubleshooting autonomy, communications, and subsystem issues
- Maintain mission logs, flight records, and regulatory documentation
- Coordinate with airspace authorities, mission planners, and HII team members to ensure safe and compliant UAS operations
- Support UAS maintenance activities and interface with technical teams for repairs, upgrades, and system integration
- Travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations as required to support operational deployments
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or 3 years relevant experience with a Master's degree in a related field; or 0 years experience with a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience
- Demonstrated hands-on experience operating the Flexrotor UAS platform
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
- Strong understanding of airspace classifications, UAS flight principles, and aviation safety protocols
- Proficiency with mission planning tools and ground control systems
- Ability to operate in dynamic environments, including onboard ships and remote locations
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors and in variable environmental conditions
- Ability to stand for extended periods during aircraft operations
- Preferred: Experience supporting ISR missions or long-endurance UAS operations
- Preferred: Prior military, defense, or maritime UAS operational experience
- Preferred: Familiarity with UAS maintenance procedures and sensor data analysis
