About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications
- Analyze and resolve complex software defects and production issues
- Support enhancements and sustainment activities for applications utilizing Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, WebLogic, Hibernate, Oracle, and related technologies
- Collaborate with architects and senior developers on modernization initiatives
- Develop and optimize SQL queries and database integrations
- Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers
- Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD processes, and application deployments
- Modernize the Department of Veterans Affairs’ eligibility and enrollment systems supporting Veterans, families, and caregivers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5–8 years of software development experience in professional environment
- Strong hands-on experience with Java development
- Hands-on experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot
- Hands-on experience developing REST APIs and web services
- Experience working with Oracle or other relational databases
- Experience using Git-based source control
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience designing and implementing REST and SOAP-based services and integrations
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience developing and maintaining backend services using Java 17+, Spring Boot, microservices, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs
- Employment eligibility subject to applicable state labor laws and remote work registration requirements
- US Citizenship required
