About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work on a platform for real-time data exchange between numerous systems, particularly across the DB Group
- Develop scalable backend components using Java and Spring or Quarkus
- Develop and operate services within a Kafka-centric platform
- Help shape the platform’s scalability, stability, and performance
- Develop messaging solutions with Kafka, MQTT, and AMQP
- Implement and operate REST, GraphQL, RPC, and WebSocket interfaces
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of experience in Java backend development
- Experience with modern frameworks such as Spring or Quarkus
- Experience with event streaming and messaging, preferably Apache Kafka, complemented by MQTT or AMQP
- Strong knowledge of SQL databases
- Several years of cloud experience, ideally with AWS
- Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitLab, Docker, and Bash scripting
- Proficiency in JSON, Protobuf, or Avro
- Knowledge of data analysis and processing, e.g., with Python, is a plus
- Strong teamwork, communication, and initiative
- Fluent German
- Good spoken and written English
