About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a core participant in the West Coast Waterfront Electrification & Decarbonization Leadership team
  • Develop and implement Moffatt & Nichol’s waterfront decarbonization strategy across port, ferry, maritime, and waterfront infrastructure sectors
  • Advise clients on electrification, resiliency, utility coordination, funding, phased implementation, and air quality and climate regulations
  • Engage with clients, capture strategic projects, and assist in execution as a seller-doer
  • Expand existing client relationships and establish new maritime-sector relationships
  • Coordinate with account managers, business unit leaders, and practice leaders to identify strategic growth opportunities
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams across West Coast offices
  • Help clients move from studies and pilots to multi-year implementation programs
  • Facilitate collaboration among planning, environmental, infrastructure, engineering, funding, and implementation teams
  • Expand emissions modeling in terminal planning tools
  • Apply AIS data, Python analytics, and AI-enabled workflows
  • Mentor staff and represent Moffatt & Nichol at conferences and industry groups including WPPA, AAPA, CMANC, and PIANC

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Planning, or Environmental Science; required
  • 18+ years of experience related to port/maritime engineering and planning; required
  • Extensive expertise in maritime air quality, emissions reduction, and climate/sustainability planning
  • Working knowledge of port electrification and utility infrastructure
  • Deep knowledge of regulations and funding programs driving maritime decarbonization
  • Proven record advising ports and agencies, winning work, and leading major programs
  • Established West Coast client relationships
  • Emissions modeling and data analytics experience
  • Ability to communicate compellingly to executives and stakeholders
  • Successful completion and passing of a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and present required documentation at hire
  • Ability to use standard office equipment
  • Willingness and ability to travel
