About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports
- Design bridges and other civil transportation structures, including culverts, retaining walls, and sound walls
- Maintain quality control of work products and complete projects on time and within budget
- Resolve design problems through field investigations, inspections, detailed design, and checking design computations
- Coordinate specific design aspects within projects
- Calculate quantity and cost estimates
- Lead project tasks by coordinating, scheduling, and supervising team members
- Collaborate with other disciplines on multidisciplinary projects
- Interact directly with clients through meetings, calls, and emails
- Work as part of the Structural Group on bridge design and rehabilitation projects for VDOT, municipalities, and counties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with structural emphasis preferred but not required
- 10 or more years of design experience of bridge or marine structures
- Design experience in both bridge and marine structures is a plus
- PE registration required
- Prior experience working on VDOT or other DOT projects preferred
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- MathCAD required
- Microstation (or AutoCAD) required
- STAAD required
- Experience with SAP2000, CSiBridge, LARSA 4D, DESCUS, and Bentley LEAP Bridge Suite preferred
- Must successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
- Must have the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and present required documentation at hire
- Ability to navigate unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment during some site visits
