About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as technical lead on projects involving surface water hydrology and hydraulics, flood risk management, and estuarine/coastal restoration and protection
  • Oversee junior engineering staff as appropriate
  • Perform numerical modeling for stormwater and drainage improvement projects
  • Perform 1D and 2D riverine hydraulic modeling
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for final bid packages
  • Participate in design activities and meetings with project team members, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in decisions regarding technical approaches, feasibility, cost, construction approaches, and scheduling performance
  • Prepare graphics, reports, and presentations
  • Resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways
  • Liaise with government agencies, local authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering; required
  • Master of Science; preferred
  • 5–10+ years of related experience; required
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification; required
  • Professional Engineer registration (PE); preferred
  • Broad expertise or unique knowledge
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with team members and project managers
  • Experience with floodplain mapping and floodplain management, including compliance with FEMA Floodplain Regulations and Standards
  • Experience with stormwater hydrology and hydraulic modeling, stormwater and drainage infrastructure permitting and design
  • Experience with watershed assessment and planning
  • Experience with flood protection and resilience
  • Experience with low impact development/green infrastructure
  • Experience preparing project scope and fee proposals
  • Knowledge of construction principles, survey, inspection, engineering methods and materials, and surveying methods and techniques
  • Working knowledge of HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM/XPSWMM/PCSWMM, WSPGW, Inforworks ICM, ESRI GIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and ability to present required documentation at hire
  • Ability to navigate unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment during some site visits
