About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop surface water hydraulic, hydrologic, and hydrodynamic models
- Perform engineering calculations related to surface water and drainage
- Analyze system flow, flood risk, and mitigation alternatives
- Address flood damage prevention and compliance with local, state, and federal flood management regulations
- Prepare exhibits, reports, and presentations illustrating findings and recommendations
- Prepare plans, specifications, estimates, and other project documents
- Liaise with government agencies, local authorities, contractors, project teams, subcontractors, and client managers
- Serve as technical lead on projects involving surface water hydrology and hydraulics, flood risk management, and estuarine/coastal restoration and protection
- Oversee junior engineering staff as appropriate
- Perform numerical modeling for stormwater and drainage improvement projects
- Perform 1D and 2D riverine hydraulic modeling
- Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for final bid packages
- Participate in design activities and project meetings
- Contribute to decisions on technical approaches, feasibility, cost, construction approaches, and scheduling
- Prepare graphics, reports, and presentations
- Resolve a wide range of issues creatively
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering required
- Master of Science preferred
- 5–10+ years of related experience required
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required
- Professional Engineer registration (PE) preferred
- Broad expertise or unique knowledge
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with team members and project managers
- Experience with floodplain mapping and floodplain management and compliance with FEMA Floodplain Regulations and Standards
- Experience with stormwater hydrology and hydraulic modeling, stormwater and drainage infrastructure permitting and design
- Experience with watershed assessment and planning
- Experience with flood protection and resilience
- Experience with low impact development/green infrastructure
- Experience preparing project scope and fee proposals
- Knowledge of construction principles, survey, inspection, engineering methods and materials, and surveying methods and techniques
- Working knowledge of HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM/XPSWMM/PCSWMM, WSPGW, Inforworks ICM, ESRI GIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
- Legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and ability to present required documentation at hire
- Ability to navigate unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment during some site visits
