About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform and oversee numerical modeling and engineering calculations evaluating flood risk, system capacity, pump and outfall performance, and mitigation alternatives
  • Support analyses of storm surge, tidal flooding, rainfall-driven flooding, and sea level rise
  • Evaluate phased and adaptive implementation approaches
  • Prepare and oversee engineering analyses, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for flood risk management, coastal resilience, stormwater, and drainage infrastructure projects
  • Develop and apply hydrologic, hydraulic, and hydrodynamic models for riverine, urban drainage, interior basin, and coastal/tidal systems
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, exhibits, figures, and presentation materials
  • Lead and participate in technical coordination with project teams, internal disciplines, subcontractors, and government agencies
  • Support projects involving municipal, state, and federal agencies
  • Coordinate regulatory requirements related to floodplain management and coastal permitting
  • Contribute to technical decisions on feasibility, alternatives, costs, and constructability
  • Coordinate task-level work and collaborate across offices on project delivery and workshare execution
  • Travel as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; required
  • 5–10+ years of water resources / stormwater management experience; required
  • Engineer in Training (EIT); required
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure or ability to obtain in California via reciprocity within 6 months of hire; preferred
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification; preferred
  • Background and/or experience with floodplain mapping and floodplain management
  • Knowledge of FEMA Floodplain Regulations and Standards
  • Experience with stormwater hydrology and hydraulic modeling, and stormwater/drainage infrastructure permitting and design
  • Experience with watershed assessment and planning
  • Experience with urban flood risk and floodplain management
  • Experience with flood protection and resilience
  • Experience with low impact development/green infrastructure
  • Experience preparing project scope and fee proposals
  • Knowledge of construction principles, survey, inspection, engineering methods and materials, and surveying methods and techniques
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Working knowledge of HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS
  • Working knowledge of SWMM/XPSWMM/PCSWMM
  • Working knowledge of InfoWorks ICM
  • Working knowledge of ESRI GIS
  • Python/MATLAB/coding for GIS and modeling preferred
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check compliant with NIST 800-171
  • Legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and present required documentation at hire
  • Ability to use standard office equipment
  • Ability to navigate unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment for some site visits
  • Light regional travel required
