About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support project teams in structural engineering and related technical disciplines
  • Analyze and design waterfront and marine structures, including piers, wharves, bulkheads, seawalls, offshore platforms, dolphins, catwalks, utility supports, drainage structures, retaining walls, towers, and foundations
  • Design using timber, structural steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, aluminum, and composite materials
  • Assist with plans, specifications, calculations, and reports
  • Help resolve design problems through field investigations, inspections, detailed design, design-computation checking, and coordination
  • Calculate construction quantity estimates
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, scientists, and project managers on multidisciplinary projects
  • Perform structural and construction site inspections and prepare inspection reports
  • Support office construction administration, including review of shop drawings and technical submittals
  • Produce basic drawings, models, calculations, data sets, or code under direct supervision
  • Work primarily in the office with occasional site visits

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis
  • Must be entering the final year of a qualified Bachelor’s degree program following the summer of employment
  • A Master’s degree student is preferred
  • Must have completed Engineering Materials coursework
  • Must have completed Structural Analysis coursework
  • Must have completed at least one material design course (reinforced concrete or structural steel)
  • Must be working towards, or already have (preferred), an EIT certification
  • At least one previous related internship is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to perform field investigations is preferred
  • Preferred experience using AutoCAD, SAP2000, LPile, Mathcad, and Bluebeam
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Must successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Must have the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and present required documentation at hire
  • Ability to navigate unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment during some site visits
