About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, path maintenance, weeding, raking, pest control, facility maintenance, landscaping, watering, pruning, firewood production, and snow/ice removal
  • Operate vehicles and powered equipment including mowers, tractors, bucket loaders, snowplows, chainsaws, trimmers, edgers, pole saws, snow blowers, and aerators
  • Cultivate, plant, transplant, seed, water, stake, prune, dead-head, weed, rake, edge, mulch, harvest, and maintain landscapes, trees, groundcovers, shrubs, pathways, and flower beds
  • Haul garden debris, clear brush, and remove litter
  • Use hand tools and garden equipment to prepare and maintain landscaping
  • Maintain and repair tools, equipment, buildings, greenhouses, fences, and benches
  • Inspect and address plant diseases, pests, and wildlife damage
  • Maintain assigned landscape areas, equipment, inventories, vehicles, and storage areas
  • Assist the Grounds Foreman with lawn and landscape projects
  • Analyze and recommend grounds methods, equipment, and plantings
  • Collaborate with garden, grounds, greenhouse, flower shop, and other department staff
  • Perform weekly utility cart and biweekly vehicle maintenance checks
  • Follow safety rules, policies, dress and grooming standards, and protective-equipment requirements
  • Interact professionally with guests, visitors, and employees
  • Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies and develop action plans to address problems
  • Inspect work for cleanliness and conformance to standards
  • Operate vehicles safely under Mohonk Mountain House traffic rules
  • Learn and demonstrate Mohonk Mountain House service steps and historical information

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Valid Driver’s License and at least 21 years of age, or 20 years of age with at least two years of licensed driving experience
  • Previous landscaping experience preferred
  • Speak, read and write the English language
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds from ground level to 36 inches with/without assistance
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds from ground level to overhead and carry up to 75 feet
  • Ability to walk up to 7 miles per day
  • Ability to maneuver carts or dollies with loads up to 200 pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors in rain, heat, wind, weather extremes, pollen, and insects
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days/nights, weekdays/weekends, holidays, and peak business periods
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Ability to perform physical activities including bending, kneeling, stooping, twisting, climbing, and standing for up to 5 hours at a time
  • Ability to see close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjust focus
