About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own Mood's data function end to end
  • Lead the data team while remaining hands-on in technical work
  • Turn data into decisions that improve profitability
  • Prioritize initiatives based on revenue, cost, and risk impact
  • Establish and manage data-request intake, ranking, priorities, tradeoffs, and capacity
  • Own BigQuery, Dataform models, and ingestion pipelines
  • Own dashboards and analyses used for business decisions
  • Own the in-house attribution model, incrementality tests, and server-side conversion-tracking data
  • Partner with Marketing to maintain sound measurement as tracking rules change
  • Ensure data quality before information reaches reports or decisions
  • Govern access for people and AI agents, including sensitive customer data
  • Drive customer segmentation and lifecycle analytics, including email
  • Make build-vs-buy decisions and optimize data-stack costs
  • Reconcile orders and revenue across Shopify, the ERP, and Finance
  • Support inventory aging and demand planning using trusted data
  • Establish certified metrics in the semantic layer for consistent use across dashboards, analysts, and the internal data bot
  • Work with the Head of Finance on reconciliation, inventory, demand planning, and data-stack costs
  • Work with the CEO on revenue and cost decisions
  • Collaborate with analytics, data engineering, analysis, contractors, Marketing, Operations, and sales channels

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years of experience in data or analytics, including 3+ years leading a data function or team
  • Hands-on SQL experience within the last two years
  • Experience working in a modern cloud data warehouse
  • Experience building data models using dbt, Dataform, or a similar framework
  • Experience building data pipelines
  • Daily hands-on use of AI tools for data work, including writing and reviewing code
  • Appropriate AI code review processes and access guardrails
  • Track record of data work influencing revenue or cost decisions, with quantifiable impact
  • Experience making defensible build-vs-buy decisions and reducing tooling or infrastructure costs with measurable savings
  • Ability to manage up and communicate clearly with executives
  • Ability to turn complex analysis into clear charts and concise recommendations
  • Ability to work across attribution, experimentation, dashboards, and data infrastructure
  • First-principles problem solving
  • Ability to lead a small team while remaining hands-on technically
  • Nice to have: experience in a regulated industry such as hemp/cannabis, alcohol, or supplements
  • Nice to have: e-commerce, DTC, or similar consumer business analytics experience
  • Nice to have: Shopify event-tracking experience, especially with a headless storefront
  • Nice to have: identity stitching, attribution, MMM, or incrementality testing experience
  • Nice to have: experience with semantic layers such as Cube
  • Nice to have: Google Cloud Platform experience
  • Nice to have: finance data experience, including reconciliation and inventory
