About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Write clean, high-quality code and remain hands-on with day-to-day technical delivery of Search initiatives
  • Own and develop the backend integration with OpenSearch
  • Build and maintain scalable, resilient infrastructure using AWS and Terraform
  • Build and maintain customer-facing features using .NET/C#, React, Node.js, TypeScript and GraphQL
  • Design, implement and A/B test features within a cross-functional agile team
  • Build appropriate tests and contribute to codebase quality and safety
  • Collaborate with engineering and data teams on AI/ML-driven features using internal ML inference APIs and external LLMs
  • Work with Product, Design, Data Science and engineering teams on priorities and dependencies
  • Support client teams integrating with services through technical guidance and practical solutions
  • Help shape the Search team roadmap
  • Provide delivery estimates and identify ongoing engineering work
  • Participate in estimation, planning and backlog refinement
  • Support pragmatic technical decisions
  • Communicate dependencies, decisions and delivery plans
  • Advocate for the Search team in wider discussions
  • Support engineer ownership and collaboration
  • Coach and support colleagues and encourage knowledge sharing
  • Improve delivery processes with the Senior Engineering Manager
  • Engage with Moonpig’s wider engineering community and champion engineering practices
  • Provide input and feedback to Engineering Managers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong hands-on experience with OpenSearch, Elasticsearch or comparable search-engine technology; OpenSearch experience particularly valuable
  • Strong understanding of how search engines work and how search models rank products
  • Understanding of model building and integrating with search models
  • Strong hands-on software engineering experience, including C#/.NET
  • Experience across frontend and backend development
  • Experience with AWS serverless, React, Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL and Terraform
  • Ability to collaborate on complex technical work and contribute to design discussions
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Design, Data Science and engineering teams
  • Ability to communicate technical topics clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience planning technical delivery, managing dependencies and providing clear, reasoned estimates
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on engineering with wider team and stakeholder responsibilities
  • Collaborative leadership style and ability to challenge constructively
  • Interest in coaching others and sharing knowledge
  • Motivation to progress from senior engineering into a broader engineering leadership role
  • Experience with serverless, event-driven systems would be beneficial
