About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead development of evaluation frameworks for autonomous systems
- Develop evaluation methodologies and metrics for on-road and off-board data
- Collaborate with Functional Safety and Systems Engineering teams to align metrics with automotive safety standards and launch readiness decisions
- Monitor metric and performance-data reliability, detecting drift, inconsistencies, and degradation
- Apply statistical methods to simulation and on-road data
- Develop statistical analysis methods for autonomous-vehicle performance data
- Convert disengagements and edge cases into procedural or generative simulation scenarios
- Identify edge cases and coverage gaps using fleet and evaluation data
- Build confidence in evaluation frameworks and communicate findings to technical leaders and stakeholders
- Correlate on-road and simulation data
- Analyze large datasets, investigate anomalies, and answer ambiguous performance questions
- Establish a self-service model for developers to understand change impacts
- Develop metrics, interpret trends, and collaborate with developers on action
- Advise and influence collaborators across teams and establish data-use best practices
- Mentor and collaborate with fellow engineers
- Introduce machine-learning methods for performance evaluation where appropriate
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of industry experience solving complex problems with large datasets
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Robotics, Physics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Experience using data analysis libraries with large, complex datasets
- Experience applying advanced statistical and machine learning methods
- Experience with statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, causal analysis, and data analysis
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and drive projects from problem definition through actionable results
- Ability to explain technical findings clearly to engineering partners and leadership
- Willingness to learn and teach new statistical and machine learning techniques
