About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead technical direction across frontend engineering and multiple cross-functional squads
  • Ship product features end to end, from design handoff through production
  • Build accessible, performant components and integrate them into applications
  • Author and own API contracts and department documentation
  • Maintain a technical roadmap with precise intent, trade-offs, and success criteria
  • Drive consistency across web properties and lead frontend migration efforts
  • Set frontend security standards, including CSP, XSS prevention, data governance, reliability, incident review, and production readiness
  • Own and improve asset and service build and deployment pipelines
  • Make commercially aware hosting, vendor, and build-vs-buy decisions
  • Develop IC3 engineers into technical leaders and raise hiring standards
  • Lead AI-assisted engineering practices using Kiro and other AI tools

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 5+ years of experience in focused frontend practice building and operating production web applications at scale
  • Track record of leading large, complex projects
  • Ability to bridge engineering and product fluently and make difficult technical decisions under uncertainty
  • Recognised technical authority in frontend engineering
  • Deep expertise with modern CSS/SCSS, HTML, and current ECMAScript proposals
  • Strong understanding of framework trade-offs
  • Comprehensive experience writing unit and E2E tests and building CI workflows
  • Deep working knowledge of TypeScript, modern React, and frameworks such as Next.js
  • Breadth across different teams and experience making build-vs-refactor-vs-replace decisions
  • Genuine interest in leading AI-assisted development
  • Experience owning and maintaining a design system and driving adoption across multiple teams (preferred)
  • Ability to create sensible UI designs without a Designer for non-trivial work (preferred)
  • Deep experience with observability, Core Web Vitals, accessibility auditing, and frontend performance tuning (preferred)
  • Experience evaluating vendors and third-party tools and making build-vs-buy recommendations (preferred)
  • Experience maintaining and evolving complex legacy systems at scale (preferred)
  • Backend fluency and comfort shaping API contracts (preferred)
