About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Proactively solicit new residential mortgage loans and sell Credit Union mortgage products
  • Spend at least 50% of time marketing outside the credit union
  • Identify, develop, and maintain referral relationships with real estate agents, builders, and personal and professional contacts
  • Promote home ownership through community involvement
  • Respond to member inquiries and referrals
  • Interview prospective borrowers and analyze financial and credit data
  • Advise borrowers on mortgage products, pricing policies, guidelines, and financing options
  • Meet with members and prospective borrowers throughout the lending process
  • Prepare complete and accurate loan applications and loan packages
  • Oversee the loan process from origination to closing and maintain ongoing communication with borrowers and business partners
  • Achieve or exceed Mortgage Department production goals
  • Complete mortgage applications through Blend and Encompass
  • Run credit reports and AUS; collect fees; order appraisals and title reports
  • Collect supporting documentation and submit complete loan packages to Mortgage Loan Coordinators
  • Ensure loans are submitted to Underwriting within 48 hours of completed packages
  • Work with Loan Coordinators to satisfy underwriting conditions
  • Track REPC and rate-lock deadlines and arrange extensions when needed
  • Maintain detailed loan notes and respond urgently to changes in loan files
  • Counsel members whose loans are denied regarding credit improvement goals
  • Attend required training, regional MLO meetings, Mortgage Department meetings, and weekly branch meetings
  • Maintain current knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Perform duties in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 years professional experience in a progressive financial lending setting
  • Minimum high school diploma or educational equivalent required
  • Ability to obtain an NMLS number; mortgage originators must register on the NMLS
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Experience with analytical and reporting software preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with Encompass, Blend, and Optimal Blue preferred
  • Ability to type a minimum of 35–40 words per minute
  • Ability to read and interpret tax returns, income statements, contracts, real estate transaction documents, loan program guidelines, AUS findings, and preliminary title reports
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, members, or clients
  • Attention to detail and outstanding customer service
  • Ability to clearly express ideas, methodology, results, and recommendations verbally, in writing, and through reports and graphic illustration
  • Ability to document outcomes and present information appropriately for key stakeholders and all organizational levels
  • Thorough knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, Federal and State compliance policies, and HMDA requirements
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
