About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist with roadway geometric design and plan preparation
  • Assist with drainage design and plan preparation
  • Assist with field inspections
  • Enter field data into specialized software and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
  • Assemble reports and other documents
  • Operate access equipment such as man-lifts, snoopers, and boats after proper training
  • Undertake diverse design assignments, progressively assuming more responsibility under department manager guidance
  • Support technical staff on day-to-day projects
  • Interact with senior leadership
  • Receive guidance and feedback from mentors and managers
  • Gain experience across bridge inspection, highway, and roadway sectors
  • Collaborate with a dedicated manager and mentor on live transportation projects and real-life design challenges

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with OpenRoad Designer preferred but not required
  • Detail-oriented with strong technical skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to perform fieldwork, including carrying ladders and gear, working at heights, climbing, and working in various weather conditions
  • Willingness to travel out of town for inspections
  • Fast learner with attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong verbal and communication skills
