About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and build systems for pricing, quoting, invoicing, payments, reporting, organizational data, and operational workflows
- Lead complex, business-critical initiatives from problem definition and solution design through production rollout and iteration
- Translate ambiguous business and operational requirements into scalable software systems
- Balance speed, flexibility, reliability, and long-term maintainability
- Drive projects independently while aligning with pod priorities and customer needs
- Design and evolve domain models for financial, organizational, and operational data
- Build integrations with accounting systems, payment platforms, internal tools, and portfolio-company software
- Create reliable, traceable, auditable workflows across systems
- Improve observability, performance, debugging, tooling, and operational reliability
- Design systems supporting portfolio-company flexibility and platform consistency
- Contribute to technical foundations for reporting, automation, and AI-enabled workflows
- Understand financial, operational, and service-delivery workflows across portfolio companies
- Work with operators, finance leaders, and internal stakeholders to identify constraints and bottlenecks
- Partner with the Pod Lead and Product Experience team to shape solutions
- Write maintainable, well-tested, production-quality code
- Lead technical design and contribute to architectural decisions
- Identify and address meaningful technical debt
- Partner with Product Experience, Infrastructure, Finance, Operations, and other product pods
- Communicate technical concepts and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Help drive clarity amid ambiguous ownership, requirements, and priorities
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems
- Proven track record delivering complex products or business-critical systems in high-growth environments
- Experience designing systems, building integrations, modeling complex domains, and operating production software at scale
- Experience across the full lifecycle of a project, from understanding customer problems through implementation and iteration
- Strong systems thinking, including domain modeling, data consistency, integrations, workflow orchestration, and business tradeoffs
- Experience integrating with external platforms, APIs, financial systems, or operational software
- Experience in workflow-heavy domains such as fintech, accounting, payments, ERP, payroll, HRIS, professional services, marketplaces, or operations software strongly preferred
- Experience with financial systems, reporting systems, billing, payments, accounting workflows, or operational tooling is a significant plus
- Ability to debug and improve systems in production and make pragmatic decisions under real-world constraints
- Product-minded and curious about business problems
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments with incomplete requirements and evolving priorities
- Strong communication skills with operators, executives, engineers, and product stakeholders
- Pragmatic approach to AI and automation
- High standards for reliability, correctness, and engineering quality
