About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Analyze data from varied sources to answer policy questions concerning adults supervised by the Department of Community Justice
  • Maintain awareness of departmental data sources, information needs, and effective reporting formats
  • Collaborate with County analysts and stakeholders in a deadline-driven environment
  • Communicate statistical analysis results to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Design and develop dashboards and other data visualizations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Explore and link administrative databases using SQL to extract relevant data for policymakers and staff
  • Engage with data inquiries from executive-level managers, staff, and community partners
  • Collaborate with team members throughout the data analysis and reporting process
  • Create and follow quality assurance practices in data analysis and visualization
  • Identify and research data sources and perform validity and reliability checks
  • Contribute to dissemination and communication planning for analysis results and visualizations
  • Work under the direction of and in collaboration with the Research & Planning Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience, with major coursework in criminal justice, statistics, mathematics, psychology, social science, or a related field
  • Three years of increasingly responsible professional data analytics work experience
  • Experience with data extraction and transformation using Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Experience with sampling
  • Experience collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data
  • Experience with descriptive and exploratory data analysis
  • Experience with data modeling or data visualization and reporting
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, including criminal, civil, driving, military, educational, and employment history review
  • Working knowledge of adult and/or juvenile criminal justice system requirements, current issues, and business practices
  • Advanced SQL Server skills for developing queries, extracting data elements, and complex dataset merging
  • Advanced data visualization skills using tools such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships in a culturally diverse environment
  • Collaborative approach and independent judgment
  • Exceptional time-management skills
  • Master's degree, PhD, or PhD ABD in a related field is preferred, not required
