Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python
Work with databases to ensure data integrity, query efficiency, and reliable performance
Investigate technical issues, identify bottlenecks, and improve system performance and stability
Build scalable, maintainable software solutions
Write, test, review, and deploy code throughout the development lifecycle
Collaborate directly with technical stakeholders to clarify requirements, propose solutions, and deliver features end to end
Improve existing systems, development workflows, and engineering practices
Use AI-powered development tools to improve productivity while maintaining code quality and correctness

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of production Python development
Backend services and API development experience
FastAPI preferred
Solid PostgreSQL expertise, including schema and data modeling, SQL, indexing, query planning, transaction behavior, and performance tuning
Systems engineering fundamentals, including Linux/server environments, networking basics, concurrency, resource utilization, reliability, profiling, and debugging
Sound software architecture and engineering judgment
Experience with maintainable code, testing, observability, deployment, and scalability
Ability to independently scope, implement, validate, and ship features end to end
Clear communication and ability to work directly with founders
Practical use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar, with strong review and verification habits
Nice-to-have: Model Context Protocol (MCP), AI agents, agent observability/tracing, or AI memory systems
Nice-to-have: Kubernetes, containers, cloud infrastructure, or infrastructure automation
Nice-to-have: Go
Nice-to-have: React and TypeScript; Node.js familiarity
