About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage day-to-day communications workflow and coordinate communications projects across the organization
- Serve as primary coordination point between Communications and program teams for publications, campaigns, events, and other communications projects
- Build relationships with program staff and understand their goals, audiences, priorities, and upcoming work
- Advise program teams on communications approaches, audiences, and deliverables
- Translate communications needs into actionable plans and timelines
- Coordinate Communications team resources and align work with organizational priorities
- Escalate significant messaging, positioning, priority, or capacity issues to the Vice President of Communications
- Own and maintain the communications calendar
- Manage communications intake, planning, project timelines, document reviews, and approval processes
- Coordinate competing deadlines and identify workflow improvements
- Support day-to-day coordination across the Communications team
- Work with the Vice President of Communications to manage priorities, capacity, and resource needs
- Provide project coordination, guidance, and feedback to the Digital Communications Specialist and Communications Associate
- Manage vendors and contractors, including projects, timelines, and deliverables
- Draft and proof web, social, and newsletter content
- Support video projects, polling and message-testing research, coalition efforts, and related communications tasks
- Report directly to the Vice President of Communications and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Public Policy, Journalism, or a related field
- Equivalent work experience combined with lived experience of homelessness will be considered
- At least 6 years of experience in communications, ideally in a nonprofit or advocacy setting
- Strong project management experience managing complex publication workflows and cross-functional communications projects
- Strong project management and organizational skills with experience managing multiple concurrent deadlines
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and build effective relationships with subject-matter experts
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with ability to adapt content for diverse audiences
- Strong communications judgment and ability to identify issues requiring strategic guidance or escalation
- Familiarity with content management systems, project management tools, and publishing workflows
- Ability to anticipate competing priorities and potential bottlenecks and develop practical solutions
- Knowledge of homelessness, housing policy, or social justice issues is a plus
- Nonprofit or policy communications experience is strongly preferred
