About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess engineering requirements and translate them into technical blueprints, drawings, layouts, and simulation models using CAD/CAM/CAE software.
  • Develop and revise 2D drawings, 3D parametric models, assemblies, and associated documentation from approved engineering inputs.
  • Create complete, unambiguous drawings defining geometry, interfaces, materials, finishes, processes, tolerances, inspection requirements, quantities, and assembly relationships.
  • Select and apply GD&T features and tolerances in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009.
  • Evaluate tolerance accumulation and fit at part and assembly interfaces.
  • Apply sound parametric modeling practices and maintain stable design intent and clean assembly structures.
  • Check drawings and models for fit, form, function, completeness, consistency, manufacturability, inspectability, and standards compliance.
  • Verify parts lists, item balloons, quantities, references, notes, weld symbols, revisions, and change markings across drawing packages.
  • Maintain drawing, model, and reference-file integrity through document control, revision control, configuration management, and records processes.
  • Resolve technical comments from engineers, checkers, fabricators, inspectors, and document change reviews.
  • Coordinate with engineers and other disciplines to clarify requirements, document assumptions, identify missing inputs, and recommend drawing or modeling solutions.
  • Plan assigned work, provide progress updates, and raise scope, resource, or schedule concerns.
  • Support backlog reduction and mentor drafting personnel when requested.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the BEA Technical Point of Contact.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of three years of experience using PTC Creo software; Creo proficiency is required for immediate contribution.
  • Overall specialization in precision mechanical design.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply ASME Y14.5-2009 to real parts and assemblies, including datum systems, position, profile, orientation, runout, form controls, composite controls, projected tolerance zones, virtual condition, and bonus tolerance.
  • Ability to explain why a GD&T scheme protects function and how the requirement can be manufactured and verified and to identify overconstrained, underdefined, conflicting, or noninspectable requirements.
  • Advanced skill with PTC Creo and Windchill Data Management Software, or comparable parametric 3D CAD software and a data manager such as PDM or Vault, plus working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Strong command of drawing layout, orthographic projection, section and detail views, dimensioning, tolerancing, weld symbols, parts lists, item ballooning, and revision practices.
  • Ability to interpret engineering calculations, specifications, vendor data, design inputs, and redlines and convert them into controlled drawing content without changing engineering intent.
  • Experience performing independent drawing checks and documenting clear, technically defensible comments.
  • Working knowledge of materials, fabrication processes, machining, welding, inspection methods, assembly practices, and how these constraints affect drawing requirements.
  • Ability to use logic and structured problem solving to compare alternatives, recognize risk, and resolve discrepancies across models, drawings, bills of material, and source documents.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to ask focused questions, explain technical decisions, accept review feedback, and work effectively with personnel of varied experience levels.
  • Experience using Windchill or a comparable PDM or Vault data management system in a controlled engineering environment.
  • Experience mentoring drafting personnel in parametric modeling, detailing, drawing checking, and GD&T application.
  • Familiarity with fabrication, machining, welding, inspection, and assembly practices that affect drawing and model requirements.
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution and five years of relevant experience, or ten years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • US citizenship is required due to government contract and/or clearance requirements.
