About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan, lay out, prepare, revise, and check engineering drawings manually and with CAD software across architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Produce accurate technical deliverables using advanced GD&T and sound modeling and drafting practices.
  • Prepare complex new drawings and revise existing drawings using 2D line work and 3D modeling in accordance with company procedures and nationally recognized standards.
  • Determine drawing elements, dimensions, parts, components, tolerances, and design and process parameters using input from project and design engineers.
  • Perform mathematical calculations, including geometric and tolerance stack-up calculations.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to specify parts, assemblies, and installation requirements.
  • Contribute design modification ideas that improve product quality or facilitate construction and fabrication.
  • Provide field documentation and as-built drawing support.
  • Maintain proficiency in Creo, AutoCAD, and other organizational modeling software, and adapt to company CAD standards and product data management and product lifecycle management systems.
  • Report work progress to project and line management.
  • Mentor less experienced drafters and check or red-line drafting work to support accurate, standards-compliant deliverables.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the BEA Technical Point of Contact.
  • Help reduce the existing drawing backlog and serve as a quality checkpoint for drafting deliverables.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Knowledge of drafting techniques and nationally recognized standards, including ANSI, ASME, and MIL-STD requirements.
  • Ability to understand and interpret ANSI/ASME Y14 drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge and application of GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009 or a more recent edition, including the ability to teach or correct GD&T usage in the work of others.
  • Ability to understand architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation drawings.
  • Minimum of three years of experience using Creo software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with engineers, field personnel, and management.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent drawing packages, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work remotely and report onsite to the Materials and Fuels Complex at Idaho National Laboratory as needed.
  • Ability to work the MFC 4x10 schedule, consisting of four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time.
  • Associate’s degree or vocational certificate in drafting/design, CAD, or engineering technology.
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant work experience, including experience checking or red-lining the work of other drafters or serving in a lead drafter capacity.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with American Welding Society symbols and procedures.
  • Preferred: Experience with CAD standards and product data management or product lifecycle management systems.
  • Preferred: Experience checking or red-lining the work of other drafters, serving in a lead drafter capacity, or mentoring less experienced drafting personnel.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting field documentation and as-built drawing development.
