About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Partner with faculty subject matter experts to develop course plans, learning outcomes, assessment maps, and course structure
- Write course guides or blueprints containing instructional narrative, activities, assessments, rubrics, and resource links
- Review and write learning outcomes using Bloom's Taxonomy and related frameworks
- Design formative and summative assessments, knowledge checks, and learning activities
- Draft media plans and coordinate with media producers and interactive developers
- Apply client templates, style guides, terminology, and design standards
- Ensure accessibility compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA and remediate accessibility issues
- Hold regular working sessions with subject matter experts, including weekly meetings
- Attend project and client calls as required by the project or contract
- Maintain task status in the client's project system, usually ClickUp
- Run course review and approval processes and route deliverables to named reviewers
- Review built courses in the LMS against approved blueprints, log fixes, confirm corrections, and sign off before client delivery
- Raise schedule, communication, and scope risks early
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience designing courses in higher education, K-12, or workforce learning and development
- At least one full course taken from outline to delivery
- Fluency with learning management systems, particularly Canvas and Brightspace
- Ability to collaborate with and lead a faculty subject matter expert relationship
- Comfort in client-facing conversations, including explaining constraints or declining unsuitable requests
- Clear, structured writing
- Ability to follow client style guides, templates, terminology, and design standards
- Self-management to meet deadlines in a distributed team
- Degree in education, instructional design, instructional technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Familiarity with accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 AA
- Nice to have: Articulate Storyline or Rise, H5P, or other interactive development tools
- Nice to have: Quality Matters or similar course design standards
- Nice to have: Experience using AI tools in a design workflow
- Nice to have: Experience in business, criminal justice, education, psychology, health sciences, or data analytics
