About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee a small group of instructional designers across multiple concurrent courses
- Review course plans, course guide batches, and LMS builds against client standards and checklists
- Provide substantive design feedback on outcomes, assessments, and activity mix
- Sign off on work before client submission and return work that is not ready
- Review built courses against approved blueprints
- Check that interactives render and behave correctly in the LMS
- Make design decisions on build questions
- Maintain accessibility and client design standards across courses
- Attend client calls and present design decisions, explain trade-offs, and absorb feedback
- Attend ID and SME calls as needed
- Coach and onboard contract designers to client templates, review processes, and standards
- Work with the project manager on sequencing, risks, and realistic dates
- Escalate scope or capacity problems early
- Keep review status visible in the project system
- Work in Alchemy's systems and client systems, including Google Workspace, Slack, the project system, and the client's LMS
- Evaluate where AI-generated content meets standards and where it does not
Requirements
What you’ll need- Several years designing courses, including courses taken end to end independently
- Experience reviewing other designers' work and providing direct, actionable feedback
- Confident judgment on outcome alignment, assessment design, and scope
- Experience with learning management systems, particularly Canvas and Brightspace
- Understanding of how design decisions survive or fail at the build stage
- Comfort in client-facing meetings, including delivering unwelcome news
- Ability to manage several courses concurrently and identify which is at risk of slipping
- Degree in education, instructional design, instructional technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience leading contract or freelance designers rather than employees (nice to have)
- Experience onboarding designers into an active project (nice to have)
- Experience with Articulate Storyline, Rise, or H5P (nice to have)
- Quality Matters certification or similar (nice to have)
- Ability to work with Google Workspace, Slack, the project system, and the client's LMS
- Ability to evaluate AI-generated content against quality standards
- Ability to reply to email and Slack within one business day
- Ability to complete reviews within the contractually stated window
