About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build product-facing features that impact acquisition and retention
Partner with product managers, designers, and data scientists to build commerce experiences that drive growth
Evolve infrastructure to support Netflix's expanding commerce surface, including Ads, Games, and Live Streaming
Address distributed systems challenges including race conditions, consistency guarantees, and throughput optimization
Participate in the on-call rotation for Tier 0 services
Own production reliability end-to-end
Lead complex engineering projects from inception to delivery
Proactively improve critical systems

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of experience building resilient, high-scale, low-latency distributed systems in production
Platform mindset and ability to translate vague business directives into clear, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions
Experience with race conditions, eventual consistency, and distributed transactions
Experience leading complex engineering projects from inception to delivery
Ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs clearly to non-engineering partners
Working experience with Java, Kotlin, C#, Scala, ElasticSearch, Kafka, Hive, or AWS
Experience with Presto and/or Spark SQL, Apache Flink
Proficiency with gRPC, GraphQL, or RESTful API design and implementation
Experience with SQL and NoSQL multi-region data stores such as Cassandra, Amazon Aurora, and Memcached
Comfortable with production on-call responsibilities and incident response for Tier 0 services
Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field (nice to have)
