About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform in-person, outdoor field service on solar sites in and around Chicago
- Follow safety regulations, company policies, procedures, PPE requirements, Pre-Job Briefs, and Job Safety Analysis processes
- Identify and immediately report potential field hazards
- Conduct routine inspections of solar energy systems
- Perform preventative maintenance on solar modules, wiring, and connections
- Torque and tighten electrical connections
- Identify and report equipment deficiencies, anomalies, and structural issues
- Assist senior technicians with basic solar-system troubleshooting
- Use multimeters, clamp meters, and similar diagnostic tools
- Perform minor repairs under direct supervision
- Complete accurate and timely work-order documentation
- Maintain daily inspection, maintenance, and repair records
- Participate in company-provided technical and solar training
- Work alongside senior technicians, support teammates, and perform other assigned duties
- Drive between solar sites, typically 30–90 minutes apart, with limited overnight travel
- Work Monday through Friday with rotational Saturday on-call coverage
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent
- Hands-on mechanical, electrical, or technical experience in any industry; 0–1 years is acceptable
- Strong mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting instincts
- Proficiency with hand tools, impact drivers, electric power tools, and hammer drills
- Willingness to work in low-voltage and non-hazardous electrical situations under supervision
- Willingness to complete paid electrical safety training
- Clear written and verbal communication and solid time management
- Willingness to work as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Authorized to work for any employer in the United States; no employment visa sponsorship available
- Ability to drive safely and confidently
- Ability to stand for long periods and walk up to three miles per day
- Ability to navigate ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps while maintaining three points of contact
- Visual acuity for depth perception, no field-of-vision issues, and ability to distinguish colors
- Ability to work in extreme heat above 100°F or extreme cold below 32°F for over one hour
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly
- Solar/PV experience, OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, FAA Part 107, and electrical schematics familiarity are helpful but not required
