About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee execution of major engineering projects or programs from initiation through closeout
- Ensure compliance with licensing, permitting, environmental, safety, and NYPA project governance requirements
- Lead development, review, and approval of project plans, risk mitigation strategies, and forecasts
- Manage multidisciplinary teams and facilitate collaboration among engineering, construction, vendors, and customers
- Develop and manage KPIs, project controls, reporting, and performance metrics
- Mentor engineers, lead onboarding, and support succession planning
- Lead projects involving construction management, transmission corridor rebuilds, high-voltage substation modernization, renewable generation and storage integration, customer-energy and electrification programs, and major capital/Propel project delivery
- Support NYPA’s strategic objectives and clean-energy mission while strengthening New York’s electric grid
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Engineering or related field required
- 7–10+ years of engineering project or construction management experience depending on role level
- New York State PE license required in some roles due to technical and regulatory responsibility
- Deep knowledge of engineering project management, project controls, construction management, and asset management
- Ability to interpret complex conditions, resolve technical challenges, and make strategic decisions
- Strong communication and negotiation skills; ability to influence cross-functional and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage diverse multidisciplinary resources across multiple complex projects
- Approximately 25% travel primarily within New York State
- Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses
- Ability to travel to vendor facilities worldwide to support construction activities and inspect equipment fabrication and commissioning
- Availability to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, when project demands
- Some preferred certifications include New York State PE License, Project or Program Management Professional certification, Design Build Institute of America certification, Certified Construction Manager (CCM), and Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification
- NYPA accepts a standard 12-month F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT) visa for certain roles; it cannot support the F-1 STEM OPT extension
