About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Establish the design foundation for Search, including principles, patterns, and components
- Design the full Search journey across organic and sponsored experiences, from entry point and typeahead through results, filters, and page layout
- Design purpose-built experiences for posts, neighbors, places, and answers
- Partner with data science, ML engineering, and research on ranking, query understanding, ambiguous queries, empty results, and low-confidence matches
- Define how sponsored and organic results coexist, including ad placement, labeling, quantity, and eligibility
- Help grow local-business queries through trusted experiences
- Prototype frequently and co-write test hypotheses with PM and data partners
- Use experiment results to guide product decisions
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of product design experience
- Substantial experience with search, discovery, or other dense, content-heavy surfaces used by large audiences
- Portfolio demonstrating problem framing, interaction and visual design, prototyping, and loading, empty, and error states
- Fluency in query understanding, retrieval, and ranking
- Ability to design alongside ML and LLM features, including failure cases
- Experience partnering with ads or monetization teams
- Record of lifting engagement and revenue through design
- Consumer product instincts and curiosity about local information-seeking behavior
- Experience framing hypotheses with PM and data science, interpreting mixed results, and recommending what ships
- Breadth across growth, marketplaces, ads, or new-product work
- Clear cross-disciplinary communication, bias for action, patience, and drive for a long rebuild
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Swift, Java, or Xcode
