About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the fleet of capture devices, sensors, and robots, including inventory, calibration, firmware, maintenance, logistics, and spares
  • Characterize platform capabilities and limitations
  • Design, build, and operate physical test environments with controlled layouts, lighting, markers, obstacles, and ground-truth references
  • Create rigs, mounts, references, and measurement setups for trajectory ground truth, positional accuracy, timing, synchronization, and condition logging
  • Integrate physical-run results into the automated evaluation system through data offload, run metadata, and structured condition capture
  • Execute robot runs and device-in-the-loop tests, including robot bring-up, teleoperation, scripted trials, and repeatable test sessions
  • Engineer and execute physical counterparts to simulated scenarios for valid sim-to-real comparisons
  • Define and maintain safe operating procedures for robots and powered equipment
  • Coordinate access and safety requirements with workplace services, IT, Legal, and site owners
  • Automate configuration, calibration checks, data offload, and condition logging
  • Report to the Director of the Real-World Test Lab

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Hands-on engineering experience with robotic hardware, including bring-up, integration, teleoperation, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Experience with mobile or wheeled platforms preferred
  • Experience building test rigs, fixtures, or instrumentation producing quantitative physical-system measurements
  • Experience designing and running structured physical experiments, including ground-truth methodology
  • Ability to document conditions rigorously for reproducibility
  • Experience with sensor calibration, multi-sensor synchronization, and coordinate frame conventions
  • Strong Python and command-line proficiency
  • Track record automating hardware configuration, data offload, or test execution
  • Experience managing hardware fleets, including inventory, firmware, calibration schedules, logistics, and repair coordination
  • Practical safety experience operating powered equipment or robots around people
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • ROS or ROS 2 experience preferred
  • NVIDIA Isaac Sim or Isaac Lab experience preferred
  • Experience with professional capture hardware preferred
  • Survey-grade or motion-capture ground truth experience preferred
  • Photogrammetry, Gaussian splat, or 3D reconstruction capture workflow experience preferred
  • Experience running test operations at customer or partner sites preferred
