About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Join Nilus as Head of Engineering and member of the leadership forum
Own how Nilus builds and ships, including delivery predictability, production quality and the engineering organization
Run R&D execution end to end as Nilus moves from build to scale
Run planning, estimation and release trains across domain teams
Set and own uptime, data integrity, incident response, SLOs, testing standards and on-call
Hire, lead and grow engineers and engineering managers
Organize teams around product domains with clear ownership
Improve code review, CI/CD, observability, security and AI-assisted development practices
Review architecture and code and work through production issues
Partner with Product on scope and trade-offs, AI architecture on platform direction, and customer teams on integrations and enterprise escalations
Own engineering's contribution to SOC 2, bank security reviews and enterprise security reviews

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years in software engineering, including 4+ years leading managers and multi-team organizations
Proven record shipping B2B SaaS to enterprise customers on predictable timelines
Ability to review architecture hands-on
Experience with systems where data correctness is critical, such as fintech, payments, banking or accounting
Strong experience with modern cloud stacks: AWS, Python/TypeScript, Postgres and event-driven pipelines
Daily use of AI coding tools, with experience making a whole team faster with them
Hands-on AI development experience within the last year, including shipping LLM-based or agentic features to production, evaluation, guardrails and cost/latency trade-offs
Understanding of model APIs, RAG, tool use and observability for AI workflows
Experience owning cloud infrastructure at scale, including AWS, infrastructure-as-code, containers and Kubernetes
Strong background in reliability and data infrastructure, including monitoring, SLOs, incident management, and batch and streaming pipelines
Nice to have: treasury, ERP or bank integrations, including NetSuite, SAP, bank APIs and ISO 20022
Ability to build trust, lead by example and take ownership of outcomes
Clear, direct communication of technical trade-offs to business and leadership peers
People development, including coaching managers and engineers, giving feedback and growing future leaders
Ability to set high standards, hold teams accountable and maintain a healthy, collaborative culture
Sound decision-making under ambiguity and pressure
Strong partnership across Product, Customers and leadership
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup and adapt to change
