About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare and coordinate environmental permitting for projects and programs supporting NiSource and Columbia Gas of Virginia
- Coordinate and perform environmental activities to implement programs and permits and achieve full compliance
- Conduct field investigations to verify conformance with engineering and construction plans
- Coordinate with business partners to align operational needs with environmental risk minimization and mitigation
- Maintain knowledge of environmental regulations and regulatory processes
- Analyze and interpret environmental rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines
- Oversee environmental resource surveys, reports, assessments, and permitting
- Partner with construction field personnel to achieve compliance and regulatory goals
- Participate in or lead meetings, training sessions, and calls with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Support and implement compliance and proactive environmental systems and programs
- Identify and communicate opportunities for continuous environmental improvement
- Coordinate business and regulatory needs across multiple organizational levels and business partners
- Communicate project status clearly and effectively to stakeholders
- Promote a safe working environment and public safety
- Support emergency response efforts when required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Environmental Science, or related field; equivalent work experience may be substituted
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience
- Working knowledge of natural resources permitting requirements in Virginia, including wetland and waterbody crossings, earth disturbance, and threatened and endangered species
- Knowledge of environmental regulations related to the energy industry
- Knowledge of energy industry operations
- Strong learning agility and ability to adapt to a changing environment
- Self-directed aptitude and willingness to contribute across environmental disciplines
- Ability to work cooperatively and build consensus within a diverse working group
- Ability to use professional judgment and work with appropriate direct supervision
- Well-developed analytical and communication skills
- Competence with electronic spreadsheets and word processing software
- Knowledge of work management support systems such as SAP S/4 HANA, GIS, and Smartsheet
- Experience directing third-party consultants
- Understanding of basic project management principles
- Approximately 5–25% travel
- Virginia DEQ Inspector or Plan Reviewer Certification for SWM/ESC preferred
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future
