About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in a commercial kitchen, storeroom, dining, or serving area
  • Support food service production at Nome Elementary and Beltz Middle/High School
  • Wash objects by hand or with cleaning equipment
  • Clean dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other items and store them in assigned areas
  • Maintain product levels in preparation, serving, and storage areas, including service machines
  • Stock storage areas with various products
  • Clean dining, kitchen, storage, spike rooms, equipment, and floors
  • Remove garbage from assigned areas
  • Set up and break down tables, snack bars, display cases, and serving lines
  • Assist with periodically scheduled large cleaning projects
  • Assist cooks and coordinate activities with others
  • Prepare food or cook vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, meats, and other items
  • Perform other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must have some knowledge of food service or food preparation or suitability for this type of work
  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English
  • Must be able to obtain Alaska Food Worker’s Card within 30 days of hire
  • At least one (1) year of work experience or documented vocational training sufficient to demonstrate knowledge of cleaning equipment, food preparation, and general cleaning processes or suitability for this type of work preferred
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Frequently walk and stand; occasionally lift, pull, and push
  • Rarely work in cramped or confined spaces and climb
  • Occasional exposure to extreme weather
