About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own and maintain project risk registers across financial close, EPC contract and COD phases
  • Consolidate risk inputs from Engineering, Construction, Legal, Finance, Sustainability, SED and O&M
  • Quantify time-at-risk and cost-at-risk contingencies using a documented methodology
  • Escalate high-priority and emerging risks with proposed courses of action
  • Evaluate free-issue/owner-supplied equipment models, including risk transfer, warranty, wrap, single-point-responsibility and bankability implications
  • Design contractor and supplier pre-qualification criteria
  • Conduct pre-qualification audits and produce recommendation memos
  • Coordinate RFP adjudication from evaluation-criteria design through final recommendation
  • Design weighted evaluation criteria and auditable scoring processes
  • Constitute discipline-specific panels and enforce Chinese walls
  • Manage bidder clarifications through a single channel and produce auditable recommendation reports
  • Identify and manage conflicts of interest
  • Maintain supplier and contractor databases, strategic interaction registers and gift declaration registers
  • Produce monthly transparency reports
  • Audit suppliers and contractors post-award and monitor corrective actions
  • Develop supplier performance metrics and feed findings into re-pre-qualification decisions
  • Run lessons-learned processes after every financial close and COD
  • Update pre-qualification criteria, evaluation criteria, EPC templates and risk taxonomy
  • Establish supplier quality-management frameworks
  • Maintain procurement filing structures and document registers
  • Develop procurement governance processes, checklists and audit trails
  • Conduct procurement process audits with internal auditors
  • Support counterparty screening/KYC checks

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BSc or BCom in Engineering, Risk Management, Quality Management, Supply Chain or a related field
  • 8+ years' relevant experience, including a minimum of 5 years in the South African renewable energy sector
  • Demonstrable renewable energy project experience across Solar PV, Wind and/or BESS, spanning development, financial close and/or execution
  • Hands-on experience calculating and defending time-at-risk and cost-at-risk contingencies in a project-finance or lender context
  • Risk quantification and contingency methodology
  • Experience with RFP and adjudication design, weighted evaluation frameworks, discipline separation, probity, single-channel clarifications and conflict of interest management
  • Quality and audit practice, including ISO 9001 and ISO 19011
  • Supplier pre-qualification frameworks
  • Strong Excel skills for risk registers, evaluation workbooks and dashboards
  • Comfortable using AI drafting tools while owning the accuracy and defensibility of every output
  • Must be able to travel
  • Post-graduate qualification, professional risk-management certification (IRMSA CPRM, ISO 31000, PMI-RMP), or recognised internal-audit/quality qualification (ISO 19011 / ISO 9001 lead-auditor) is advantageous
  • Engineering qualification (BSc Eng / BEng) is preferred
  • Construction-phase experience, exposure to REIPPPP or comparable IPP/project-finance environments, lender due diligence, and prior involvement in EPC procurement using owner-supplied/free-issued equipment are advantageous
