About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Participate in preliminary, prefeasibility, feasibility, and sensitivity studies for underground and open-pit mining projects
  • Design and plan mining infrastructure and operations to optimize production while meeting health and safety and environmental requirements and addressing technical constraints
  • Supervise one or two people or manage smaller-scale projects, as needed
  • Participate in the planning and optimization of mining operations
  • Analyze geological data and block models to support production planning and reserve estimation
  • Design and model mine workings using Deswik, AutoCAD, and other specialized software
  • Develop mining sequences, schedules, and development and production plans
  • Conduct optimization analyses, compare different scenarios, and make recommendations
  • Participate in the design of drilling, blasting, ventilation, pumping, and other mining infrastructure systems
  • Select equipment and contribute to technical and trade-off studies
  • Collaborate with various disciplines to develop safe, efficient, and cost-effective solutions
  • Prepare CAPEX and OPEX estimates
  • Write technical reports and contribute to NI 43-101 reports
  • Follow up on projects with clients and present results
  • Coordinate the work of junior staff or interns, as needed
  • Conduct site visits to assess infrastructure, collect required data, and verify facility compliance
  • Participate in fieldwork related to geotechnical, geomechanical, or hydrogeological studies, as needed
  • Participate in meetings, project follow-ups, and required administrative tasks
  • Continuously develop your skills with guidance from experienced engineers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
  • Membership in an engineering association in another Canadian province is an asset
  • 10 years of experience in mining and mining engineering
  • Mining modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 are an asset
  • Experience in project management and mining studies
  • Relevant experience in surface and underground operations is an asset
  • Additional specialization in rock mechanics, ventilation, operations research, mining environment, drilling and blasting, or mine planning is an asset
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and spoken French
  • Willingness to continuously develop knowledge and skills
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Excel programming experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of Deswik and AutoCAD (Promine) drafting software; Gemcom is an asset
  • Knowledge of mine-planning or specialized software such as the Rocscience suite, Deswik, DataMine, MineSite, Vulcan, or Ventsim is an asset, depending on the engineer’s area of specialization
