About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee the overall building design and construction of aerodynamic research facilities
  • Design heavy-structural-aero-test equipment for wind tunnels and other aerospace ground testing
  • Develop or reuse facility and equipment design solutions to meet customer requirements
  • Collaborate with project managers, subcontracted local A&E, and internal engineering disciplines
  • Prepare detailed equipment calculations
  • Direct, review, and approve designer drawings
  • Perform engineering tasks on schedule and within budget
  • Ensure system design aligns with sold scope, customer requirements, quality standards, and industry codes
  • Communicate project status, issues, and variances
  • Prepare design criteria, calculation packages, procurement specifications, technical reports, validation plans, and product manuals
  • Participate in and lead internal and customer design reviews
  • Provide remote and on-site engineering support during building construction and equipment fabrication and installation
  • Review contractor work, respond to contractor questions and RFIs, coordinate field engineering changes, and conduct site surveys
  • Assist marketing with proposals, facility layouts, cost estimates, technical write-ups, analyses, options, and recommendations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (preferred)
  • 5+ years of practical work experience in design engineering, structural analysis, building construction oversight, or similar roles
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above
  • PE preferred
  • Self-starter able to work on multiple projects and prioritize workload
  • Proficiency in structural engineering with working knowledge of architectural details
  • Working knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical engineering
  • Experience with FEM modeling using RISA, ANSYS, or similar structural analysis and design programs
  • Familiarity with IBC, Eurocode, AISC, ACI, NFPA, FM Global, and CE compliance
  • Experience writing technical specifications
  • Proficiency with CAD: AutoCAD, Revit, RISA, and SolidWorks preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and attention to completeness, accuracy, and detail
  • Demonstrated ability to meet budgets and schedules
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally; travel typically less than 10%
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
