About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Translate medical procedures and diagnoses into accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes
- Code professional surgery charges in outpatient and inpatient settings
- Apply approved classification coding systems and modifiers
- Follow AAPC/AMA CPT Guidelines, AHA Coding Clinic, ICD-10-CM CMS, HCAI, and NorthBay Healthcare coding guidelines
- Communicate with providers by email, query, phone, or in person
- Educate providers and discuss coding requirements
- Meet assigned coding metrics and deadlines
- Participate in frequent webcam training and team engagement
- Work according to leadership direction and business needs
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Graduate or equivalent preferred; college coursework a plus
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Specialist–Physician (CCS-P)
- Five or more years of professional fee coding experience required, including surgical coding in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- EMR medical records experience required
- Experience with an encoder system preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge and application of professional-fee surgical guidelines, including coding of assistants and co-surgeons
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, reimbursement methodologies (DRGs, HCCs, APCs), and ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding conventions, rules, and guidelines
- Understanding of clinical content in health records
- Knowledge of and experience with PCs, Cerner, and/or computer systems and programs highly desired
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Email, Word, and Excel
- Understanding of insurance requirements and compliance guidelines for Medicare, PHP, WHA, Medi-Cal, Workers’ Compensation, and commercial insurers
- Ability to meet metrics after training
- Technical aptitude to learn software and troubleshoot equipment
- Ability and self-discipline to work remotely, independently, and in a team environment
- Ability to work under continual deadlines and variable work requirements
- Must have a private, distraction-free home work area for HIPAA reasons
- Must have or be willing to obtain high-speed internet exceeding 125 Mbps download speed
- Monday through Friday full-time availability as assigned
