About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide on-call and as-needed support for the Spiritual Care team
  • Support patients and families from all spiritual, religious, and humanistic paths, as well as staff
  • Provide services to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and their families
  • Provide a calming and supportive presence
  • Support patients, families, and caregivers during end-of-life situations
  • Assess spiritual care needs and match them with appropriate care and support
  • Provide spiritual care during personal crises, including death of a child, suicide, drug overdose, mental health issues, substance dependency, serious illness, and acute trauma
  • Provide spiritual care assessment and support as a member of the Palliative Care Team
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for patient/family support and service recovery
  • Train and support relief chaplains, chaplain assistants, Native Healer, and volunteers
  • Share information and collaborate as a Chaplain Services team member to enhance patient care
  • Share on-call and holiday coverage
  • Attend Palliative Care rounds and meetings
  • Document in the EMR regarding patient and family spiritual care issues
  • Provide sacramental support upon request
  • Attend mandatory quarterly Chaplain Service meetings
  • Participate in team meetings, ongoing training, collaboration, and process improvement
  • Participate as an interdisciplinary team member, integrate team goals and insights, identify spiritual care plans and goals, and maintain shared resources
  • Report safety-related incidents through the Midas/RDE tool and attend safety training
  • Comply with applicable state and federal regulations and company policies
  • Complete mandatory company modules and job-specific training

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED — Required
  • Minimum 3 years' experience providing spiritual care to people of many different faiths and secular values — Required
  • Formalized spiritual or pastoral care training provided by faith community or ecclesiastical body — Required
  • Spiritual care education, experience and/or training directly related to issues of death and dying — Required
  • Understanding of computers and competence in using computers and basic software programs
  • Graduate theological, divinity, or pastoral care degree from a seminary or university accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) — Preferred
  • Ministerial standing, oversight, or equivalent with a recognized ecclesiastical body — Preferred
  • Experience providing spiritual care in a hospital setting to people from varied faith, cultural, and socially diverse backgrounds — Strongly preferred
  • Conversational Spanish, Navajo, Sign Language, or another second language — Preferred
  • Ability to maintain required certifications and/or licenses, if applicable
